The British Columbia Gaming Authority (BCLC) is increasing its commitment to responsible gaming by strengthening identification protocols at casino entry points. Starting this summer, all casino patrons will be mandated to provide government-issued photographic identification upon admittance. This action seeks to better aid individuals registered in BCLC’s “Game Break” voluntary exclusion program.
Security staff will scan the identification cards, which will be automatically compared against a roster of individuals prohibited from gaming establishments, encompassing those enrolled in the “Game Break” initiative. Crucially, the system will not retain personal data of those permitted to enter.
This endeavor aligns with BCLC’s dedication to cultivating the safest player atmosphere worldwide, employing research-backed tactics that prioritize player welfare. A recent third-party assessment of BCLC’s self-exclusion program indicated that participants considered identification verification at gaming locations to be the most potent deterrent.
The formal launch date will be disclosed in the upcoming weeks.
British Columbia inhabitants can obtain complimentary prevention, intervention, and assistance services related to gaming via the province’s designated help center.
Video game enthusiasts should be aware that confirming their age and/or identity might be necessary even prior to a game’s official release date. This is due to the fact that identity verification processes are also implemented when managing situations such as winnings disbursements.
On the topic of game launches, Light & Wonder established an agreement with the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) in April 2023 to introduce ReelPlay games onto their system.
It is important to mention that BCLC is recognized for its dedication to diversity and inclusivity – they were formally acknowledged by the government for their endeavors in the previous year! They even achieved a top-tier five-star ranking on Canada’s leading employers’ platform for Diversity & Inclusion, a website that showcases companies making exceptional strides in cultivating welcoming and inclusive work environments.
