Twitch Tightens Gambling Rules, But Remains Vague on Specifics

Twitch has begun to take a stricter approach towards unregulated gambling websites, providing some additional information regarding their prohibition policies, but they are being rather ambiguous about the specifics.

Amazon, which owns Twitch, declared last month that they would prohibit streams from particular gambling websites after years of controversy surrounding gambling on the platform.

They stated that the gambling sites they would ban would be “sites that are not licensed in the US or other locations that have robust customer protection.”

They identified a few cryptocurrency casinos such as Stake.com, Rollbit, Duelbits, and Roobet as examples of sites that would be prohibited.

The ban commenced yesterday, so Twitch updated their community guidelines with more details about what types of sites they might prohibit.

Twitch did not provide specific details, merely stating: “We consider numerous factors when determining if a site is permitted, such as whether they have features like deposit limits, timeouts, and age verification.”

Furthermore, we’ll examine if streamers are utilizing or promoting the use of virtual private networks to circumvent regional limitations, and if the platform is authorized in the United States or other regions that offer sufficient consumer safeguards.

Once again, it designates Stake.com, Rollbit, Duelbits, and Roobet as forbidden websites, and indicates that it might add more sites to this catalog in the future.

Broadcasting free social versions of these platforms is also forbidden. However, Twitch reiterates that it still permits streaming of sites that primarily concentrate on fantasy sports, sports wagering, or poker.
